Residence, west side of Durham Street, Madoc: This house is a beautifully finished and maintained example of the late 19th-century Victorian Gothic. The steep roofs and dormers show consistent detailing of the molded rake boards, posts, collar ties and the curved collar braces in the shape of Gothic arches. The bay windows at ground level are capped by "eyebrows" of molded Tudor arches with drop labels. The roof over the main entrance, with a lower slope, is the only element not in harmony with the otherwise perfect composition of roof slopes. The regular-coursed ashlar is adorned with a horizontal band of two courses of coloured stone, true to style. The patterned slate roof crowns the entire composition.
