The York River, flowing right to left, meanders around businesses on Highway 62 at Bancroft. Now a placid stream, the York was once a roaring river which occasionally flooded Bancroft. It was also the conduit for logs being transported to the Madawaska and Ottawa rivers. The river valley follows a fault line in the earth's crust.
