Hastings Treaties: After the fall of Quebec, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 reserved interior lands for native use. This policy was abandoned in favour of a series of treaties and settlement when Loyalists began arriving after the American Revolutionary War. The map indicates areas of Hastings County covered by various treaties from 1783 to 1923. The Mohawk Tyendinaga Territory was established by Lt.-Gov. John Graves Simcoe in 1793.
